Description

Contributor to the Dada and Surrealist movements (1890–1976) best known for his experimental photography. ANS in French, signed “Man Ray,” one page on a 3.5 x 5.25 postcard depicting an architectural sculpture, postmarked April 7, 1967. Handwritten note addressed to poet Rene Char in Paris, in part (translated): "'Fury and mystery,' I was bedridden—an infection—but I'm better now." In fine condition, with light silvering the image side.

Man Ray photographed the French poet René Char, capturing him in various portraits on multiple occasions—their connection was part of the broader circle of Surrealist artists in Paris, and Char also collaborated with other figures in the movement, such as Paul Eluard and Picasso. In his message, Man Ray evokes the title of Char's 1948 collection of poetry, Fureur et Mystère.
