American comics artist (1921-2012) noted for his distinctive work with EC Comics, primarily on the war comics Two-Fisted Tales and Frontline Combat; for Marvel Comics, especially its war and Western comics; and for his 45-year stint with the satiric magazine Cracked. He was one of the founding cartoonists of Mad in 1952. Original artwork by legendary comics artist John Severin for a one-page parody advertisement published in the October 1978 issue of Cracked Magazine, No. 154, accomplished in ink and paint on an off-white 14.25 x 21.25 sheet, which is signed below with his artist signature, “Severin.” The lower section features Severin’s drawings for an ad headed, “When Businesses Start Going After the Over-65 Market,” which shows three elderly wheelchair riders doing tricks at the Haoli Skateboard Park. Much of the ad’s text has been printed and placed in position, and the upper edge is annotated by an editorial hand, “Cracked #154, Over 65 Market ¼, P. 20 - 56 ½%.” Framed to an overall size of 17 x 23.75. In fine condition.
