Description

LS signed “Dan'l Webster,” one page, 8 x 10.25, September 25, 1841. Letter to Stephen W. Gaines, in part: "I have to inform you that Paulo J. Figueira was in 1836, commissioned and recognized as Vice Consul of Portugal, at the part of New York, and for all the ports of New York, Connecticut and East Jersey; but that in May 1838, he was superseded in that office, by P. N. Searle, since which time, Mr. Figueira has not the Consul or Vice Consul, of Portugal or any other foreign nation, at New York or any other part of the United States." Matted and framed with an engraved portrait to an overall size of 17.5 x 14. In fine condition.
