World War II-dated ALS signed “Bill Halsey,” one page, 7.5 x 9.75, personal South Pacific Force letterhead, December 9, 1942. Handwritten letter to an old friend named Margaret, in part: “Many thanks for your wonderful letter and your congratulations. Altho I am not worthy of them, I accept in the name of the glorious men who fight and die while I sit back and pull strings. ‘Old friends are the bestest’ and I have not changed one iota. Where we are, there is no hip hip hurrah stuff and everything is a month or more old before it reaches us. I dislike publicity exceedingly, and thank God by the time I get home they will have forgotten who I am.” Double-matted and framed with a photo and engraved nameplate to an overall size of 26 x 21. In fine condition.
