Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 16 x 20, July 29, 1949. President Truman appoints Herbert G. Hopwood as "Director of Budget and Reports in the Department of the Navy." Signed at the conclusion in fountain pen by President Harry S. Truman, and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Francis P. Matthews. The blue Naval Department seal affixed at the bottom remains intact. Affixed to a 20 x 24.75 board and in very good to fine condition, with a few small stains, and light wrinkling from mounting.
Herbert G. Hopwood (1898–1966) was a four-star admiral in the United States Navy who served as commander in chief of the United States Pacific Fleet from 1958 to 1960.
