Partly-printed DS, signed “J. Q. Adams" as president and "H. Clay" as secretary of state, one page, 15.5 x 9.75, January 2, 1829. President Adams appoints John W. Livingston as "Marshal of the United States, in and for the Northern District of New York." Signed at the conclusion in ink by President John Quincy Adams, and countersigned by Secretary of State Henry Clay. The embossed white paper seal affixed at the lower left remains intact. In fine condition, with a few small stains.
