President Hayes dispatches a congratulatory “letter to the Emperor of Austria, in reply to his announcing the birth of the Archduchess Maria Immaculata”

Partly-printed DS as president, signed “R. B. Hayes,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, October 28, 1878. President Hayes authorizes and directs the Secretary of State to cause the Seal of the United States to be affixed to “an envelope containing my letter to the Emperor of Austria, in reply to his announcing the birth of the Archduchess Maria Immaculata Ferdinanda Theresia Leopoldina Antonia Henrietta Francisca Carolina Aloisia Januaria Christina Filomena Rosalia.” Signed at the conclusion by Rutherford B. Hayes. In fine condition.

This document appears to celebrate the birth of Archduchess Maria Immakulata, the seventh child of the Archduke Karl Salvator of Austria and his wife, Princess Maria Immacolata of Bourbon-Two Sicilies. The archduchess was born on September 3, 1878, and married Duke Robert of Württemberg on October 29, 1900.
