ALS in Yiddish, one page, 8.25 x 10.5, La Colline letterhead, postmarked April 17, 1973. Handwritten letter to David Giladi, a Jewish art dealer and a collector of Chagall's work, in part (translated): "While you all enjoy and rejoice in your heart—on the 25th anniversary of our country—I want to send you from afar—a distant joy. And when I say from a distance, you can feel the depth of sadness and mourning when I am far from you and I am not among you. I always felt I was among you. For some time now I have been away from Vitebsk, even though my pictures show distant figures from my dreams ever since. This is how I think… Think of me as a neighbor who lives somewhere, not far from you. In the pictures I am watching you. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the new country—receive my congratulations, and because of my age I can greet the youth. And you have proved to the whole world his divine will and power to live in an independent state in friendship towards all nations and peoples." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
