Description

"Now I know when you think of Marines you don't think of music. Marines storming the beach probably comes to mind instead. Most Americans aren't aware that the Marine band is one of the foremost musical groups in the country"

ALS as president, signed "Ronald Reagan" and "Nancy," one page, 6.75 x 8.75, White House letterhead, August 8, 1983. Handwritten letter to the Sisco family, "Miss Sam, Miss Bertha & Buzzy," in full: "Thought about you a few nights ago knowing your love for music. It was the 185th anniversary of the Marine Corps band. Now I know when you think of Marines you don't think of music. Marines storming the beach probably comes to mind instead.

Most Americans aren't aware that the Marine band is one of the foremost musical groups in the country. The band gave a two hour concert at Kennedy Center. The music was magnificent. Yes there were stirring Sousa marches but also there were great symphonic scores beautifully performed. You as the music lover you are would have been thrilled to hear them." In very fine condition.

Reagan carried on an extensive correspondence with the Sisco sisters—Bertha and Samueline—and their mentally handicapped brother Joseph, nicknamed ‘Buzzy,’ sending them nearly one hundred letters, sketches, and photos between 1972 and 1987; Reagan was introduced to the family when he purchased goods from their leather shop in northern California.
