Watchmaker, inventor, musician, diplomat, fugitive, spy, publisher, arms dealer, and revolutionary (1732–1799) best known for his theatrical works, especially the three Figaro plays. ALS in French, signed “Beaumarchais,” one page both sides, 6.5 x 8.25, October 15, 1772. Letter recommending one of his protégés to manage his own interests in the city of Tours, in small part (translated): "He's a man who has worked a lot in the office for food in Germany and who has spent his youth making accountability. He is a great calculator and the best man in the world." After writing about debts problems that his correspondent will have to solve in his name, Beaumarchais mentions his new protégé again, whose name is Lessart: "This man, whom I have known for 25 years, has in him all the kindness and the diplomacy you will need. He is a man on whom you can fully rely." In fine condition, with light soiling, and seal-related paper loss to the integral address leaf.
