Description

German-language stock certificate for a share in the “Austrian Daimler Motors Stock Corporation” in exchange for 200 Austro-Hungarian krone, one page, 12.5 x 9.5, February 1, 1920, signed at the conclusion by representatives of Austro-Daimler AG. Matted and framed to an overall size of 21.5 x 18.5. In fine condition. Accompanied by a detached sheet containing 31 coupons.

The Austro-Daimler Motoren AG, founded in 1899 as an Austrian subsidiary of Germany’s Daimler company, became renowned under Ferdinand Porsche, who joined in 1906 as chief designer and later technical director. Porsche produced advanced luxury and racing cars, helping establish the firm’s prestige before World War I. After the war, however, Austro-Daimler lost much of its market with the breakup of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and faced severe financial strain. These troubles eventually led to its merger with Puch and Steyr in 1934, forming Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG.
