Confederate major general (1826–1895) who distinguished himself during the Siege of Petersburg; in his career as a civil engineer, Mahone was prominent in the building of Virginia's roads and railroads. DS, signed "Wm. Mahone," one page, 11 x 7.25, January 1, 1867. Handsomely engraved interest bond of $100 for the Norfolk & Petersburg Railroad Company, signed at the conclusion by William Mahone as the company's president. In fine condition.
