Description

Naval codebreaker (1902–1985) during World War II who played a key role in deciphering Japanese communications. His efforts helped uncover the flight itinerary of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, the architect of the Pearl Harbor attack, which enabled Operation Vengeance—the U.S. mission on April 18, 1943, that successfully intercepted and shot down Yamamoto’s aircraft over Bougainville. He went on to help found the National Security Agency's cryptography department, and has been called the 'father of machine cryptanalysis.' Vintage fountain pen signature, "Thos. H. Dyer,” on a 4 x 11.25 biographical section cut from the 1924 edition of the 'Lucky Bag,' the yearbook of the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. In very fine condition, with trimmed edges.
