TLS signed “Earl Hines,” one page, 8 x 10.5, April 17, 1944. Letter to the William Morris Agency, in part: "I hereby request immediate and unqualified release from my booking contract with your agency. My request is based on the failure of your office to furnish reasonable or sufficient bookings for me to maintain my band. During the year of 1943 we were off 130 days. Since January 1, 1944 to April 15, 1944 we have been off for 38 days. As of today our next booking is a one nite engagement in Detroit on April 29th. In good faith I have continued to sacrifice and suffer extreme hardships in an effort to cooperate with your office. I have accepted spasmodic bookings many times at a financial loss…I can no longer hold my band together without making drastic changes in my entire set-up." In fine condition, with the original mailing envelope stapled at the upper left.
