DS in Japanese, one page, 23 x 18, April 1, 1906. Scarce imperial document awarding the prestigious Order of the Golden Kite (Kinshi Kunsho). Tightly rolled and in very good to fine condition, with light vertical folds, and some creasing in the border.
Established in 1890 by Emperor Meiji, the Order of the Golden Kite was a military award commemorating the mythic Jimmu Tenno, the ‘Romulus of Japan.’ It was awarded to soldiers and military officers who demonstrated bravery, leadership, or command in battle. This is one of the few orders made exclusively for the Japanese military, while most others could be given to civilians, diplomats, and other officials including those from other countries.
