Description

TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Museum of Modern Art letterhead, February 1, 1955. Letter to Mrs. Howard Church, in part: "Thanks for your very kind and interested expression about my work. At present I am still occupied with the follow-up problems of the Family of Man Exhibition and am considering stepping stones to further it. I am afraid the idea of a one man show of my work will have to wait for quite awhile. If such an exhibition is ever held, the Museum will naturally initiate it here and then it would be opened for circulation." In fine condition.

The Museum of Modern Art’s landmark 1955 exhibition The Family of Man, curated by Edward Steichen, brought together over 500 photographs from more than 60 countries to celebrate the shared experiences of humanity. Organized thematically—birth, love, work, struggle, and death—it sought to highlight the universality of human life across cultures. Hugely popular and influential, the exhibition toured internationally and became one of the most widely seen photography shows of the 20th century.
