Description

Modernist writer (1903–1977) whose sexually explicit journals and correspondence with Henry Miller led to her popular resurgence in the 1970s as a feminist icon and a literary figure of the avant-garde. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, February 9, 1974. Letter to Verna Sabelle, founder of M.D. magazine, in part: "I want to tell you how much admiration I have for the M.D. magazine. I continue to read it with the same interest. People actually send me duplicates of articles on Dreams, this or that they think might interest me, when I have read them already. I think you are doing a great job editorially. I wanted to ask you two questions: should I place your name on my list of review copies for Volume 5 of the Diary coming out in April…Did you receive a copy of Celebration for review? Do you wish to? The other question is to help a friend. I happened to read in M.D. of a Doctor who teaches how to strengthen the urinary muscles when they have been weakened by surgery. I cannot find the mention again. It was in these small, short sections of innovations I believe. I have searched every copy I own. Would it be too hard for your research department to find this and are you able to give a Doctor's name?" In fine condition. Nin was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 1974 and underwent numerous surgical operations, radiation, and chemotherapy in an effort to prolong her life; it may be that her inquiry came on behalf of herself.
