Partly-printed DS, signed “J. Tyler" as president and "J. C. Calhoun" as secretary of state, one page, 21.5 x 16.5, June 10, 1844. Four-language ship's papers issued to John A. Bayliss "master or commander of the Ship called the Amethyst…bound for Indian Ocean and laden with Provisions, stores and utensils for a Whaling Voyage." Prominently signed at the center in ink by President John Tyler, and countersigned by Secretary of State John C. Calhoun. The embossed white paper seal affixed at the center remains fully intact. Mounted, matted, and framed with a portrait to an overall size of 37.5 x 25. In very good to fine condition, with scattered light foxing and staining.
