TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, August 3, 1952. Letter to Mrs. Lottie G. Watlington, in full: "We were all so pleased to get your nice letter written before Ike's nomination. As long as you saw Mother's picture on television, I need not tell you she was with us, but I can tell you she was the life of the party, as usual. Yes, Mike, Gordon and Michael were there plus all of the Eisenhower brothers so we had quite a family reunion.
The 'Marty' that you spoke of was one of Ike's mess Sergeants during the war and in the 1948 campaign, he was carrying on his own private campaign for Ike in Philadelphia. He really was invaluable this time. Now, Lottie, besides your good southern vote, be sure you round up the rest of your family for Ike. We need those Texas votes.
Mabel Schubach called us up a short time ago. She was down from Wyoming for a short visit. I can assure you there have been no poker games this summer. Life has been too hectic for us. Ike has just returned from his 10-day fishing trip in the mountains and seems very rested; he is full of his usual pep.
Congratulations on your new grandson. Helen really goes in for boys. How cute that he is red-headed. We got in only two visits with the grandchildren in Chicago, but those were the bright spots of our stay. You know, of course, by now that John has left for Korea. It was a sad blow for us to have him leave so soon after our homecoming, but he volunteered and of course, we are proud of him. I work from six to nine hours every day on this correspondence so guess I better get on to another letter.
We all send you and Helen our very best love! Do call Ike." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
