Description

Jack Kerouac's personally-owned and -used mid-century desk lamp, featuring a two-tone gold-and-black conical shade atop a flexible gold arm, set upon a round, weighted base. The on/off switch on the rear of the lampshade has been modified with yellow tape, and the two-prong plug has been reinforced with old electrical tape—perhaps evidence of Kerouac's own handiwork. The lamp base measures 6˝ in diameter, and the lamp stands about 16˝ tall in a fully upright position. It retains a period 25-watt General Electric bulb.

Accompanied by a notarized provenance certificate signed by John Shen-Sampas, the executor of the estate of Jack Kerouac; Shen-Sampas is the son of John Sampas, who was Kerouac’s brother-in-law and literary executor.
