Gene Kranz’s personally-owned and -used bracket-bound ‘Rough Draft’ report entitled “Case Study: The Apollo 13 Accident / By: Phillip E. Chase, Franz J. Mogdis and Penelope A. Young,” with header, “Scientific and Technical Information for Critical Period Management,” dated January 1977, prepared for Gellman Research Associates under National Science Foundation Contract No. NSF-76-05499, signed on the title page in black felt tip, “This was one of the best case studies of Apollo 13, Eugene F. Kranz, ‘Flight.’” Kranz has made sundry corrections to the text in red felt tip, and has annotated to the title sheet as follows: “1. F. D. Report, Pages - Tape Redr @ console - Pages / HR / +FD/AFR LOg, + Requests / Significantly underest Pg 50 / 2. Permission to MSN Org / 3.” The report’s sections include: Introduction; Purpose; Summary of Findings and Conclusions; Recommendations; Crisis and Critical Period Management; Characteristics of Apollo 13 Crisis; Approach; and Analysis of Apollo 13 Crisis. In fine condition.
The preface reads: “This Report represents a final report submitted to Gellman Research Associates, Inc. under Contract No. NSF-76-05499, National Science Foundation, Office of Science Information Service. Views or conclusions contained herein are the author's and should not be interpreted as representing official policy or opinion of either Gellman Research Associates, Inc. or the National Science Foundation.
This Report is the product of a research effort to which a number of people contributed. We wish to thank NASA and its personnel for their cooperation in arranging and participating in interviews, responding to a set of written hypotheses and completing a long survey form. We hope that we faithfully reproduced their comments during the interviews.
