Large official color glossy 13.75 x 10.75 NASA photo of CDR John Young leaping off the lunar surface as he salutes the American flag during the Apollo 16 mission, affixed to original 19.75 x 15.5 presentation mount, which is signed and inscribed in the lower border in black ink, “To Brandy: With a salute from Descartes Base Moon and every wish for the best of you. Warmest regards, John Young.” The upper left corner bears an affixed Apollo 16 embroidered mission patch. In fine condition, with scattered light foxing.
'Brandy,' or Col. Frank M. Brandstetter (1912–2011), was a legendary hotelier, corporate executive, U. S. Army intelligence officer, and good friend of many Apollo astronauts, whom he often invited to his world-renowned resort in Acapulco, Las Brisas.
