French landscape and portrait painter (1796–1875) identified with the Barbizon School. ALS in French, signed "C. Corot," one page both sides, 4 x 5.25, January 19, 1873. Handwritten letter to a friend, in full (translated): "I thank you a lot for your letter and for the sketch that I had seen at your atelier. I was very happy to see this painting again, which has a very good effect. Only, my dear friend, I would very much like to know what I owe you and please let me know where I can refund you. Harpignies an encourages me to send a painting for the exhibition. Unfortunately, I have nothing available. I have only old things that are not chic today. I ask you to please thank the people at the Atelier and send them my best wishes and for you and for Madame Augier." He adds a postscript: "If my health is good, it is probable that I will see you next year at the end of August." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
