Signer of the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation as a representative of North Carolina (1741-1781). Revolutionary War-era manuscript DS, signed “J. Penn, Atto,” one page both sides, 9.5 x 15.5, no date [1780]. Land dispute document from the Salisbury district of North Carolina, regarding an allotment of 500 acres that Amos and Mary-Ann Lad, Mathew and Ruth Shaw, and Edward and Rebecca Lovell believe that they are rightfully owed by their uncle, Robert Warnock. Signed at the bottom on the reverse of the second integral page by John Penn, who adds the upper docketing in his own hand, “Amos Ladd & others, vs Robert Warnock, Joseph & John Carmichael.” In very good to fine condition, with some toning and small stains.
