Truman denies ever using campaign buttons—"Never did have any for National Elections! Didn’t have the money for ‘em"

TLS, one page, 6.75 x 9.75, personal letterhead, April 12, 1961. Letter to collector Frederick W. Lyman, in full: “Your letter was appreciated and I wish I could comply with your request. However, I do not have any campaign buttons.” Truman adds a handwritten postscript: “Never did have any for National Elections! Didn’t have the money for ‘em.” Double-matted and framed with a series of seven Truman campaign pinback buttons to an overall size of 14.75 x 18.5. In fine condition.
