Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Delaware (1734-1817) who later served as president of the Continental Congress, Chief Justice of Pennsylvania, and Governor of Pennsylvania. Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “Tho. M:Kean,” one page, 20 x 12.75, June 12, 1801. As governor of Pennsylvania, McKean grants Jonas Eckart "a certain tract of land, called 'Contention'…containing Two hundred ninety seven acres." Signed in the upper left by Governor Thomas McKean. The seal affixed to the upper left remains mostly intact, with a tape-repaired tear. Also endorsed on the reverse by Timothy Matlack, the engrosser of the Declaration of Independence. In very good to fine condition, with scattered toning and soiling, a small hole affecting a few words of text, and tape-repaired tears to the seal.
