Description

Admiral (1813-1891) who helped improve the Navy as the superintendent of the US Naval Academy after significant service in the American Civil War. Partly-printed DS, signed “David D. Porter,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, June 3, 1863. As Rear Admiral, Commanding U.S. Mississippi Squadron, Porter appoints Alfred D. Reno as "1st Class Pilot of the U.S. Mississippi Squadron, to have authority as 1st Class Pilot, and to be obeyed by all persons under him in said Squadron." In fine condition.
