German diplomat (1904–1973) who served as an attaché for Nazi Germany in occupied Denmark; in 1943, tipped off the Danes about the intended deportation of the Jewish population and arranged for the mass escape of Danish Jews to Sweden. Israel has designated Duckwitz as one of the 'Righteous Among the Nations' for his efforts. TLS in German, signed “Duckwitz,” one page, 7.5 x 10, Deutsche Gesandtschaft [German Embassy], Kopenhagen letterhead, July 16, 1937. Letter to Emil Juel-Frederiksen, in part (translated): "The Reich Minister of Foreign Affairs has granted your request for an autograph." In fine condition, with trimmed edges.
