King of Prussia (born 1712) from 1740 until his death in 1786, whose political prowess and enlightened attitudes toward religion, learning, and the humanities earned him the sobriquet 'Frederick the Great.' LS in German, signed “F,” one page, 7.5 x 9.5, September 28, 1756. Letter from the beginning of the Seven Years' War—a few days before the Battle of Lobositz against the Austrians—to Ernst Wilhelm von Schlabrendorf, the first minister in charge of Silesia, with final instructions. In response to a dispatch from Warsaw, Frederick sends instructions to "give the order and, if possible, arrange for it to be sent without delay by express courier, but without unnecessary fuss and delivered to Warsaw," continuing: "Regarding the patent for which you were informed that this should be printed and published in the neighboring countries on behalf of the Empress Queen [Maria Theresa], then you have no hesitation in ordering that this should be done so. Such a patent must be printed and published again in Silesia, and thus the Austrians must be immediately rebuked." In fine condition, with scattered light foxing.
