World War II-dated printed presentation sheet, signed in fountain pen by General Dwight D. Eisenhower, one page, 8 x 10.5, no date but postmarked May 6, 1945. The page is headed "Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, Supreme Headquarters, Allied Expeditionary Force," and features a color image of the insignia below. A description of the meaning behind the design of the patch is printed at the bottom, explaining that the black background represents "the darkness of Nazi oppression," the fiery crusader's sword representing "avenging justice," a rainbow comprised of the colors of the flags of the Allied forces to represent hope, and light blue at the top "emblematic of a state of peace and tranquility." In fine condition.
Accompanied by an actual example of the patch and the original mailing envelope bearing a cancellation date of May 6, 1945, one day before Germany signed the first Instrument of Surrender at the SHAEF (Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force) headquarters in Reims, France, on May 7, 1945, marking the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany and effectively ending the war in Europe.
