Description

Swedish-American Army engineer (1803–1889) who designed and built the ironclad warship Monitor for the American Navy. ALS signed “J. Ericsson,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, August 11, 1860. Handwritten letter to a gentleman, in part: "Lannan will go…any time next week at my request. I find his feelings in such excited state…The young man is fully sensible of the importance of the trust confided to him and will do his duty. He will report to me and return to N.Y. as soon as the machine is in perfect working condition." In fine condition, with some faint staining along the left edge.
