Description

ALS, four pages on two adjoining sheets, 10.5 x 8.25, August 14, 1873. Addressed from Buffalo, a handwritten letter to former New York Senator Ira Harris, in part: “I am sorry to be compelled to say that Mrs. F. has not enjoyed her usual health for several years; and two years ago last fall she had the misfortune to sprain her ankle very badly, which confined her to her chair for 6 months, and the want of exercise had a very injurious effect upon her general health. She suffered much from dyspepsia and loss of appetite and strength and last spring she had a carbuncle on her neck and this was followed by a succession of boils. Consequently, she has been confined mostly to her house, and has been wholly unable to entertain company; but I am happy to say that she is now gaining strength and we hope she will soon be well again.” Double-matted and framed with an engraved portrait to an overall size of 23 x 14.25; window to frame backing reveals the second and third pages. In fine condition, with a tiny tear beneath the salutation.
