Air mail envelope postmarked on the front and back on August 27 and 28, 1926, in Springfield and Chicago, Illinois, 9.5 x 4, signed in the upper right corner in black ink, “Charles A. Lindbergh, C.A.M. 2.” The envelope is signed on the front and back by nine other air mail pilots. In fine condition, with light toning to the right half.
Charles Lindbergh was the chief pilot for Contract Air Mail Route No. 2 (CAM-2), a 278-mile route between St. Louis and Chicago with intermediate stops in Springfield and Peoria. He opened the route on April 15, 1926, flying a modified de Havilland DH-4 for the Robertson Aircraft Corporation. This experience was crucial in his development as a pilot and ultimately led to his historic solo transatlantic flight.
