ALS, one page both sides, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead with an original print in the right margin, August 25, 1967. Handwritten letter to his Japanese translator and teacher, Michiyo Watanabe, in part: "I just had a telephone call from my daughter Val in Colorado asking me if she could come back home to live with us…as her business there is no good and she doesn't want to spend the winter in that cold climate. I said of course she could come and stay as long as she likes. I told her about your coming here to live and about our friend Sue who will cook for all of us and she thought it was all OK…She would use the little room next to yours, with photos on the wall. And would be glad to use the double bed which is now in your room. I am writing you about this immediately because I told you so many unpleasant things about her that you might be frightened to live in the same house with her…If she likes some one she can be an angel. She does have several girl friends whom she likes very much. So, there it is. I want to give you a chance to think it over….I could not refuse her, as she is my daughter, and probably needs to come home—short of money, a little homesick, and perhaps has lost another lover—??? Incidentally, Tony and she get along much better now, though I don't think he will be too happy about it. At bottom they really do care for one another, and in a crisis each tries to protect the other." In fine condition.
