(Walt Disney Studios, 1997) Original color model set-up used in the creation of the limited edition sericel 'Earthly Companions’ for the Oscar-nominated Disney film Hercules, which contains five layers composed of three cels, a lithographic background, and a presentation mat. The cels, each 11.5 x 14.75, contain a colorful hand-painted multi-character design of Hercules, Megara, Pegasus, and Philoctetes; a line drawing of a pool with fountain and tree; and the outline of an ancient Greek vase. The litho background, 11.5 x 15, features the vase image inset with the pool design, and the black display mat, 12 x 15, features a vase-shaped window with the lower corners marked “Color Model” and bearing the silver Walt Disney Company seal with edition size (2500) for the sericel only. This 1 of 3 hand-painted color modal we are offering was never sold to the public.
Interestingly, the lower right of the multi-character cel also has the silver Walt Disney Company seal, but its edition size is listed as “5000.” In overall fine condition. Accompanied by its original folder and certificate of authenticity from Disney Enterprises, which notes that “As only two of three models are created for most sericel editions, these are very rare parts of the labor-intensive process that goes into each and every Walt Disney Animation Art sericel.”
