French astronomer and author (1842–1925) who authored several notable early science fiction novels, and several works about Spiritualism. ALS in French, signed “Flammarion,” four pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 8.25, Observatoire De Juvisy letterhead, June 10, 1897. Handwritten letter inviting French dramatist, Philippe Gille, to visit. In part (translated): “I have tried four times to find you at home… But like the inaccessible stars which astronomy cannot reach even with a telescope, you remain solemnly hidden in the majesty of the infinite reaches. I should have liked to speak with you briefly about Stello, to tell you that it is the philosophical testament of an astronomer, to ask you to present this work to your readers of Figaro… Saturn is superb right now and Jupiter also. You could take a short trip to the skies and be home, at Jouffroy, at 11:30… I am sure that Mme. Gille would find in the heavens one of her favorite stars." In fine condition.
