American soldier (1839-1925) who is the only man to serve as an officer in the Civil War, Indian Wars, and Spanish-American War, celebrated as the captor of Geronimo. Vintage matte-finish 4.25 x 5.25 photo of Miles in uniform, affixed within its original 7 x 11 studio folder, signed and inscribed on the mount in ink, "To Professor Vogel Y. Russell, with the compliments and best wishes of Nelson A. Miles, Lt. General U. S. Army.” In fine condition, with a small circular stain to the front of the folder.
