"I did not know you were a great chess fan"—handwritten letter from Bobby Fischer, affixed inside a copy of his only book, Bobby Fischer's Games of Chess

ALS, one page, 6.25 x 9.25, no date. Handwritten letter to “Miss Benedict,” in full: “Thank you very much for your kind gift. Why you have given it to me I do not know. I did not know you were a great chess fan.” Fischer has added his first name, “Bob,” to the reverse of the sheet, which is affixed by its top edge to the front pastedown of a hardcover copy of Fischer’s 1959 book, Bobby Fischer's Games of Chess. In fine condition.
