Description

Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 8.5 x 11, June 18, 1874. President Grant authorizes and directs "the Secretary of State to affix the Seal of the United States to the envelope of my letter to His Excellency Ygnacio Maria Gonzalez, President of the Dominican Republic." In very good to fine condition, with a short tear to the upper right edge.

Ignacio María González served as the leader of the Dominican Republic on multiple occasions between 1873 and 1878, during a period marked by intense political instability and frequent power struggles. His leadership was characterized by efforts to stabilize the government and expand international trade, but he was repeatedly overthrown or forced to resign.
