Description

ALS in Italian, signed “G. Puccini,” one page, 6.25 x 9.75, Via Verdi, 4, Milano letterhead, June 15, 1906. Handwritten letter to an unidentified woman from Budapest, in full (translated): “You will excuse me for writing you so late. I was very busy in London, and on returning from Milan I found a mountain of things which absorbed me completely, then my wife was ill etc. etc. I had the photographs taken on Margherita Island developed. They are really sweet and remind me of the pleasant moments spent in your so amiable company. I shall write Elvino today. I shall write him briefly. Please decline any letters from him that may come. I am leaving tomorrow or the day after for Torre del Lago, the heat here is palpable! Many cordial regards to your mother, to your father, and to your most kind self.” The reverse of the second integral page is addressed in Puccini’s hand. In fine condition. The referenced Elvino is ostensibly Elvino Ventura, an Italian tenor who sang many Puccini roles, including Rodolfo in La bohème. He also recorded Puccini's Recondita armonia.
