Personal check, 8.5 x 3.25, filled out and signed by Hemingway, "Ernest M. Hemingway," payable to Roberto Herrera for $1000, March 29, 1954; endorsed on the reverse in fountain pen by Roberto Herrera. In fine condition. Herrera was Hemingway's close friend, part-time secretary, and brother of his Cuban doctor; he frequently accompanied the writer on his exploits aboard the famous fishing boat Pilar. Accompanied by two original vintage candid photographs, approximately 2.5 x 2.5, one showing Hemingway and one showing Herrera; plus a modern color print of Hemingway.
