Golfer (1902–1971) who, in 1930, became the only Grand Slam winner in the sport's history, taking the U.S. and British Open and U.S. and British Amateur titles. Over the course of his career, he would win a total of four U.S. Open titles, five U.S. Amateur titles, and three British Open titles. Vintage matte-finish 7 x 9.25 photo of a young Bobby Jones swinging a wood on the golf course, nicely signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint, "For Doug Norwine, with best wishes, Bob Jones.” Attractively double-suede-matted and framed with a plaque to an overall size of 18.5 x 25. In very good to fine condition, with scattered creases and surface marks, with a heavier and more noticeable area of creasing to top right.
Jones is considered one of the five giants of the 1920s American sports scene, along with Babe Ruth, Jack Dempsey, Red Grange, and Bill Tilden. He was the first recipient of the Amateur Athletic Union's James E. Sullivan Award as the top amateur athlete in the United States. Jones received ticker-tape parades in New York City in 1926 and 1930, an honor only rarely bestowed upon a solo athlete.
