(Nickelodeon, 1999-2000) Original production cels of SpongeBob SquarePants, Carol, Frank, and Fat Anchovy from ‘Ripped Pants,’ episode 2b of the first season of SpongeBob SquarePants, which aired on July 17, 1999. The scene shows SpongeBob balancing on the head of Frank the whale as he emerges from the sand, with Carol and Fat Anchovy (also known as The Losers) watching nearby from their backs. The cels are placed on a hand-painted production background from the same episode, which consists of an underwater beach area with towels, umbrellas, and a changing tent. Character images measure 1.5 x 1 (Carol), 3.75 x 3.25 (SpongeBob and Frank), and 2.25 x 1.75 (Fat Anchovy with cheeseburger), with overall dimensions of 13.25 x 10.75. The lower right of the first cel bears a Nickelodeon seal, and each cel is respectively marked as “D19,” “H10,” “B9,” and “A14,” with the background marked as “SB-106, BG-141.” In fine condition. A superb multi-cel and background set-up from the acclaimed first season of SpongeBob SquarePants, the show’s only season to use the traditional cel animation process. Production cels and backgrounds from the ‘golden era’ of SpongeBob remain rare and highly collectible, especially those with multiple characters.
