(Nickelodeon, 1999) Original production cels and master production background of SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, and Squidward Tentacles from ‘Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost,’ episode 11b of season one of SpongeBob SquarePants, which originally aired on October 2, 1999. The cels, which feature full-figure poses of SpongeBob and Patrick startled to find themselves standing in a melted version of Squidward, are placed on a hand-painted production background from the same episode. Full character image measures 5.25 x 5.5, with overall dimensions of 13.75 x 10.5. The cels are marked “NK-PA-SB01150042-1, B84” and “42, F1,” and the background is marked as “SB 155, BG 36A.” In fine condition. An excellent cel and background set-up from the adored first season of SpongeBob SquarePants, the show’s only season to use the traditional cel animation process. Production cels and backgrounds from the ‘golden era’ of SpongeBob remain rare and highly collectible, especially those featuring the show’s three most recognizable characters.
