Description

Color 4 x 5.75 postcard of Roy Lichtenstein's classic 1965 oil and magna painting ‘White Brushstroke #1,’ signed in the lower border in black ink by the artist. In fine condition, with a trivial smudge to the start of the signature, which, in a way, aligns itself with the above image. A desirable signed postcard from Lichtenstein, whose Brushstroke series depicts the gestural expression of a brushstroke but with a distinct mechanically produced appearance. Similar to the way in which comics simulate movement through dynamic strokes, Lichtenstein's Brushstroke works depict the painting style of action painters and Abstract Expressionism with humor and irony. Lichtenstein's 'White Brushstroke #1', the original of which sold at auction for $27 million in 2020, is considered by experts to have ushered in the Pop Art era.
