Co-pilot and aircraft commander (1917–1983) of the Enola Gay, which dropped the atomic bomb 'Little Boy' on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Souvenir typescript signed "Capt. Bob. Lewis," one page, 8.5 x 11, recalling the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. In full: "August 6, 1945 at 2:27 A.M. We started engines. I think everyone will be relieved when we have left our bomb with the Japs and get halfway home, or better still, all the way home. 7:30 A.M….We are loaded. The bomb is now alive and it's a funny feeling knowing it's right in back of you… There'll be a short intermission while we bomb our target… If I live a hundred years I'll never quite get those few minutes out of my mind… 15 seconds after the flash, there were two very distinct slaps… and there in front of our eyes was without a doubt the greatest explosion man has ever witnessed." In fine condition.
