President Fillmore sends condolences upon the death of an infant prince

LS as president, one page, 10.5 x 16.5, May 28, 1851. Official letter of state to Ferdinand II, King of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. In part: "I have received the letter…announcing that Her Royal Highness, the spouse of your beloved brother, the Count of Aquila had prematurely given birth…to a Royal Prince, who in holy baptism received the names of Maria, Emanuel, Sebastian, Gabriel, but that it had pleased God, to call the infant Prince to himself…. Feeling a deep interest in the happiness of Your Royal House, I offer to Your Majesty my sincere condolence upon this mournful event." Corner-mounted and framed to an overall size of 14.5 x 20.75. In fine condition. Accompanied by the seldom-seen envelope of transmittal with affixed embossed presidential seal.
