Description

DS, signed “Thos. A. Edison,” five total pages, 8 x 11, December 6, 1921. Document headed "Minutes of a Meeting of the Board of Directors of Edison Storage Battery Company,” detailing an agreement between the Edison Storage Battery Company and the American Railway Express Company, which regards “certain discounts, allowances, and replacements of Edison Storage Batteries.” The proposed agreement is printed within the document, and includes the following discounts: “30% on A and B type Edison cells, parts, accessories and repairs / 25% on G type Edison cells, parts, accessories and repairs / 10% on Electric Filling Outfits, parts and repairs / No discount on Edison Electrolyte / During the life of this agreement, we will replace such Edison cells in your service as may be found incapable of delivering at least 80% of their rated capacity (when tested under our supervision) with new cells at the following allowances or discounts from our standard list price in effect at date of acceptance of replacement order.” Signed at the conclusion in fountain pen by Charles Edison, Thomas Edison, Harry Miller, J. V. Miller, and Stephen B. Mambert. In fine condition. The Edison Storage Battery Company was organized in New Jersey on May 27, 1901, to develop, manufacture, and sell the alkaline storage battery that Edison had developed, which was used for mining lamps, train lighting and signaling, submarines, and electric vehicles.
