Vintage ballpoint signature, "Love, Brian Jones, x," on the reverse of a 4 x 6 paper folder (8.5 x 6 open), which carries an original vintage glossy 3.5 x 5.5 candid photograph of the Rolling Stones guitarist. In fine condition, with a light stain touching the sentiment and a few creases to the folder. The photograph was taken on August 23, 1963, when the Rolling Stones appeared on the British television show Ready Steady Go; the autograph was obtained after their subsequent performance on the program on November 22, 1963. It was after this performance that the Stones heard of the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks and a provenance statement from the original recipient, in full: "In 1963 the NME column said the Rolling Stones were living at 102 Edith Grove Chelsea. On a Tuesday during the school summer holidays my friends and I went there and knocked on the door. Mick Jagger answered and spoke to us and signed the paper sleeve of my copy of their single 'Come On.' He informed us that Brian and Keith also live there but were asleep. We returned there two days later on Thursday. The following day, on Friday 23rd August 1963, we went to the Ready Steady Go studios in Kingsway where the Stones were appearing.
On getting out of the car, Mick Jagger saw us and said 'Oh not you again'!! However, I took photographs of Mick, Keith and Brian. When the photos were printed I sent copies to Edith Grove.
At the next Stones appearance on Ready Steady Go on 22nd November 1963 I followed Mick and his manager, Andrew Loog Oldham to a nearby branch of WH Smiths in Kingsway, London. On presenting the photograph for Mick's signature, he became quite annoyed and wanted to know how I had a copy when he had it on his mantlepiece at home!!
I told I had sent it to him which for some reason he found hard to believe. I don't know where he thought it had come from! However, he did sign it and I also got Andrew's autograph. Keith and Brian also signed their pictures."
