ALS in pencil, signed “Tallulah,” thirteen pages, 6 x 7.5, postmarked September 22, 1961. Addressed from the home of Canadian socialite Dola Dunsmuir Cavendish, a lengthy handwritten letter to esteemed playwright James Leo Herlihy, in part: “After the address, I am exhausted. I’m lying in bed, dogs yapping, fire place burning, the most beautiful view in the world, lakes, mountains, flowers, dogs galore, seven counting Dolores and Gabrielle, exquisite food too much to describe, but my heart is broken on account of or because of Dog…my favorite man in all the world and that includes you, Churchill [her pet lion], Adlai, Kennedy, and Daddy. Why? Why? Why? Oh, well. Press on…This letter may be worth a Goya if not a museum price.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
